The house was originally designed by Architect Schilling and has since undergone a conversion by architects Catalanoquiel.
This renovation of a 1950s house in Köln Lindenthal, designed by architect Hans Schilling, preserves a prime example of post-war architecture. The two-story, detached multi-family home, with its distinctive proportions and materials, echoes Schilling's renowned church buildings. Notable are the unique glass artworks made on-site by artist and glass painter Friedrich Hans "Fritz" Lauten are especially valuable, as he created unique artworks during his stay in the house.
The entrance area reveals the house's full length and width. Private rooms are at the back, while a 6-meter-high living room with a mezzanine gallery at the front features vibrant stained glass and a sculptural stainless steel staircase.
The owner, deeply connected to the house, collaborated with the architect to maintain its character. They stripped the structure to its essentials, creating an open, flexible floor plan with carefully placed furniture islands.
